Date Ideas in Brighton, MI

by Kimberly Liby

Surrounded by Ann Harbor, Detroit and a couple of other downtown cities, Brighton, Michigan is an urban utopia full of restaurants and art. Brighton has many parks, which means an abundance of outdoor activities and music festivals. With preserved, historic architecture and modern upgrades on the rise, Brighton offers a unique perspective on dating outdoors.

Outdoor Activities

Enjoy an hour-long horse ride at Brighton Recreation Riding Stable where you and your date can choose from four different trails. Evening rides are also available, as well as, fall hay rides with or without your own private bonfire, s'mores and hot chocolate. Take your date to Huron Meadows Metropark for festivities all year round. Huron Meadows Metropark has winter activities including sledding, tobogganing, skiing or ice skating; in the summertime, you can rent a row boat, bike/walk the paths, go fishing or geocaching.

Indoor Fun

Brighton Bowl gives you and your date a chance to get acquainted in a lively atmosphere, allowing the two of you to blend in or mingle, which takes the edge off of any potential first-date nerves. After bowling, enjoy some dinner and drinks in their bar and grill; try your hand at pool, darts or dance near the jukebox to some of your selected favorites. A fairly new concept and alternative to outdoor golfing and miniature golf is golf simulation. Golf-O-Rama offers golf simulation on a giant screen where you and your date can hit real golf balls with the clubs of your choice. Unlike most venues, Golf-O-Rama allows their patrons to have pizza delivered, or you and your date can bring your own home cooked picnic basket.

Entertainment

The Brighton Center for the Performing Arts houses various forms of art and entertainment. Watch a play, ballet, enjoy a concert or a comedy show. Take your date to the annual Brighton Fine Art and Acoustic Music Festival held on Main Street in downtown Brighton. It's a weekend-long event where you and your date can enjoy food and music from all over the state while viewing works from original artists: jewelry, paintings, photography, pottery, sculptures and more.

Restaurants

Bagger Dave’s rustic, brick building adds a nostalgic, neighborhood feel, bringing a little downtown city culture to the suburb burger tavern. They offer beer and wine pairings for their burgers; craft sodas made from your choice of flavors or mix and match. Also, Bagger Dave's Burger Tavern provides craft beers from all over Michigan; they offer gourmet burgers and hand-cut fries, done with flavor and sophistication. If you’re looking for something more formal, Buon Gusto Italian Bistro quite possibly has the most delicious Italian food in Brighton, Michigan. The lunch and dinner menus are diametrically opposed, having a seemingly endless variation of authentic Italian food.
