Cute Outfits to Go with Ripped Jeans

by Angela Bakke, studioD

A pair of ripped jeans are a sexy and edgy street style that you simply must try if you're looking for a new approach to your everyday-jeans outfits. In stores, these jeans are often referred to as distressed denim, destroyed, deconstructed or torn jeans — basically, a pair of jeans that have holes worn through, usually around the knees. There are lots of super cute outfits you can wear based on the cut of the jeans and how seriously they're shred.

Love for the Destroyed Boyfriend

A pair of super-baggy and ripped-up boyfriend jeans is utterly chic with a feminine top and high heels. Try this look with a sequined crop-top tank and a pair of strappy, shiny stiletto heels. Find a pair of very light-washed boyfriend jeans that are ripped primarily around the knees with a bit of shredding here and there. Be sure to cuff the jeans well above the ankle and wear a pair that is not so big that they require a belt. The jeans should sit nicely on your hips. Add a patent-leather clutch and statement jewelry such as a cocktail ring or collar-brushing earrings. For a tamer version of this look, wear a darker wash of boyfriend jeans, such as a medium blue vintage wash, and tuck in a button-up collared chiffon blouse and a pair of mid-heel ankle boots.

Get Skinny and Ripped

For a sexy style statement, try a pair of ripped skinny jeans that are shredded all the way down the leg. Feel free to try this look in traditional light-wash denim as well as black, gray or white. Wear a loose-fitting top. A loose-fit button-down chambray or plaid shirt left out and worn with a pair of ballet flats is a well-balanced weekend-casual outfit. To amplify the look, wear your shredded skinnies with a pair of d'Orsay pumps and a silhouette-enhancing top such as a peplum tank or a long-sleeved wrap blouse.

Style Them to Shreds

For a rebellious rocker-chic outfit, wear a pair of ripped jeans with other equally distressed pieces. A dark vintage-tribute tee — preferably for a band you have some knowledge about — paired with black distressed straight-leg jeans and motorcycle ankle boots is both edgy and playful when you add some fun silver and leather jewelry pieces and layer on a colorful boho-chic chunky sweater jacket. Make the outfit more feminine with a pair of open-toe ankle boots.

Give Glam an Edge

Perhaps your style is more girly-girl than punk-rock. Mix a pair of slightly ripped jeans with other more structured and refined pieces. Torn-up jeans paired with a leopard-print loafers, a white tee and black blazer is both fashionable and polished. Accessorize with an oversize black handbag, gold jewelry and dark sunglasses for a few sophisticated details that beautifully balance your grunge-inspired jeans. A bold-patterned blousey top, anything cashmere, and cropped tweed blazers are a few other elegant choices in tops to tame your wild pants.
