That pair of light blue jeans was too cute to pass up, but styling it for all seasons might produce some unwelcome anxiety. While faded jeans can be worn in any weather, they are perhaps best suited for spring and summer, given their light hue. Unlike medium and dark jeans -- which function similarly to navy and go with almost everything -- light-wash jeans operate more like a pastel blue pant. This makes creating versatile outfits tricky but entirely doable -- all it takes is a bit of fashion know-how.
Nice in Neutrals
While jewel tones and brown-based autumn shades don’t pair well with a light blue pant, you can’t go wrong if you work with a neutral palette. White, ivory, beige, gray and black lend a polished look when worn with faded jeans but are in tune with the jeans' light, fresh feeling. During the summer, pair a rolled-up boyfriend jean with a white or heather gray tank or tee and ballet flats or metallic gladiator sandals. For a more sophisticated look, wear straight-leg light blue jeans with a white silky tee and black blazer.
Light blue skinny jeans look lovely with feminine pastels. Channel your inner girly girl with a lilac or mint green sleeveless button-down or a gauzy floral blouse; finish with a pair of neutral pumps. If the weather’s still cool, pull on a white tank top with a long-sleeved, baby pink cardigan sweater and delicate pearl earrings. In deep summer, keep things light and airy with cropped faded jeans, a soft yellow or peach tee and taupe ballet flats.
A light-wash flared or wide-leg jean conjures up thoughts of the hippie stylings of the 1970s. Embrace this look with a light pastel peasant blouse, wood bracelets and chunky brown wedges for a retro feel or wear a graphic print halter tank in medium shades like sage green, yellow or violet. Throw on platform heels, big hoops and an oversize cognac bag for the ultimate in boho glam.
Denim on Denim
One of the easiest outfits to pull together with nearly any cut of light blue jeans is a denim-on-denim look. The trick to making this ensemble work is to vary the denim weights and colors. For example, pair your thin-cotton blue jeans with a white or gray tank and a dark blue denim button-down shirt. Accessorize with black boots or heels and a black, pewter or animal-print bag. For a little extra fashion flair, work in a spot of color -- think red ballet flats or coral jewelry.
