Texas Tech University
Located in Lubbock, Texas Tech University offers a bachelor's degree program in interior design. Students in the program study subjects such as architecture, lighting, furnishing and business practices. Texas Tech's status as a major research university affords students a number of career preparation programs. For example, interior design students can participate in supervised internships and display their work in a senior showcase. The top student in each graduating class receives the "Outstanding Senior" award. Texas Tech also has a sophisticated computer lab featuring several important software programs for design.
University of North Texas
Located within easy commuting distance of both Fort Worth and Dallas, the University of North Texas offers a thriving interior design degree program. Students in the program learn to analyze interior design problems, assess current conditions, and visually and verbally present solutions. UNT interior design students are required to complete an internship during their course of study, guaranteeing that all students gain some professional experience before graduation. Students must earn a GPA of at least 2.25 to graduate.
University of Texas at Arlington
The University of Texas at Arlington hosts an interior design degree program accredited by both the Council for Interior Design Accreditation and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The rigorous program takes a minimum of eight semesters to complete, so incoming students should declare their intention to study interior design as quickly as possible. The program focuses on architecture and studio design, so students needs skills in mathematics and art to succeed.
Texas Christian University
Texas Christian University, a large, private university located in Fort Worth, hosts a bachelor's degree program in interior design and merchandising. Students at TCU take classes in architecture and studio art in addition to their design classes. All students are required to complete an internship before graduation and many have interned at prestigious design firms in New York and California. Students can participate in the TCU Interior Design Association, a preprofessional organization that helps students gain work experience.
Abilene Christian University
Located in the small west Texas town of Abilene, Abilene Christian University offers a CIDA-accredited degree in interior design. Students at ACU have received 30 regional and national awards for various projects over the last few years, including a number of designs for hotels and hospitals. Student projects have provided designs for residential buildings, health care facilities and retail stores. ACU is a religious university, and it emphasizes Christian values in all aspects of its curriculum.
