Clothing Ideas for Nightclubs

by Amanda Rumbalski

A night out at a nightclub is an opportunity to experiment and take risks with attire that you may not typically wear. Whether you're going to a nightclub with the girls or a significant other, you'll want to be fashionable, appropriate and comfortable. This way, all eyes will be on you for your dancing skills and not because you didn't get the dress code memo.

Girly and Glam

Experiment with proportions and print for an outfit worthy of hitting a nightclub dance floor. Try a high-waisted fit-and-flare skirt in a bold cheetah or geometric print. Balance the hight waist and volume of the skirt with a crop top that shows a sliver of skin. Stick with a neutral-colored top to keep the focus on the print of your skirt. For additional coverage or warmth, bring along a leather jacket with minimal hardware or details. Accessorize with a statement necklace and black gladiator heels.

Edgy and Bold

Nothing is more edgy and sleek for a nightclub than an all black ensemble. The key is to break up the monochromatic look with various textures and a pop of color. Try a black leather pencil skirt and a silk camisole. Tuck your camisole into the waistband of your skirt and accessorize with bangles or a long necklace. Incorporate color with ankle strap heels in bright or neon hues.

Stylish and Classy

A little black dress, or LBD, is a classic option that offers both practicality and glamour. Opt for a style that is above the knee or mini length with interesting details like sequins or a peplum. Other details to look for are sheer sleeves, jeweled and metallic embellishments, and cutouts or overlays. Accessorize a high neckline with chandelier earrings and show off bare arms with bold metallic cuffs. Ground the look with black or metallic stilettos or peep-toe booties.

Casual and Chic

For nightclubs that don't have a strict dress code, easy separates are a casual option. Skinny dark-wash jeans in dark gray, dark blue, or black are definitely club appropriate. Pair your denim with an over-sized T-shirt that boasts a band logo or has chain embellishments and add a matching bandeau for additional coverage. Finish the look with statement rings and a pair of Chuck Taylors, or throw on a trim velvet blazer and heels.
