Which Blouses & Tops Look Best With Boyfriend Jeans?

by Jennifer Blair

When it comes to blending style and comfort, boyfriend jeans are difficult to top. Their looser fit makes them a much more comfortable alternative to skinny jeans, but their slouchy, relaxed feel is full of plenty of casual cool. If you like the look of boyfriend jeans but can't quite figure out what tops to wear with them, think about balance -- choosing a top that offsets the loose fit of the jeans is a surefire way to create a flattering outfit.

Tee Time

The charm of boyfriend jeans is their relaxed, casual look – which makes them the ideal companion to a simple fitted T-shirt. For a classic casual look, pair your boyfriend jeans with a white V-neck tee and add your favorite tennis shoes to maximize comfort. If you want to look a little more polished, swap the sneakers for ballet flats and add a patterned scarf. You don’t have to stick to a white tee, though – pair your jeans with more colorful options or a striped, graphic or polka dotted T-shirt.

Buttoned Up

While boyfriend jeans may have a casual, comfortable look, you don’t have to match that vibe with other relaxed pieces. Create a striking look by wearing your jeans with a classic button-down shirt – choose a tailored or fitted style so it flatters your curves and doesn’t look too boxy. If the shirt isn’t too long, you can leave it untucked over the jeans. However, you look a little more polished by tucking the shirt in and adding a bold statement necklace -- throw on a pair of heels and you’ll be reading for an evening out.

Build in Some Structure

Boyfriend jeans are definitely comfortable, but they can sometimes look a little too relaxed. Pairing them with structured tops gives your figure some definition and dresses up the look of the jeans. A fitted blazer creates a striking contrast with the casual look of your boyfriend jeans. Keep things simple with a basic black blazer or choose a tweed or houndstooth check jacket to add some texture to your look. If you are looking for some edge, put on a leather blazer with your boyfriend jeans. Under your blazer, wear a simple T-shirt, tank top or camisole and tuck it into the jeans for a sleek, polished look.

Make a Sexy Statement

When you’re wearing looser-fitting pants like boyfriend jeans, rock a bold, sexy shirt for an evening out. Wear your jeans with a corset-style top in a feminine floral print or a tube top in a bright color like red or hot pink. A sexy cropped top or a slinky off-the-shoulder blouse makes an interesting contrast in both form and fabric. Put on a lacy camisole or sequined tank top for a simple, flirty look.
