How to Attract a Job

by Aanya Rose

Most people who head out on a job search use aggressive traditional methods. While this may work in the long term, other methods exist for finding a job. Why not sit back and focus on attracting the job of your dreams? Many theorists suggest you can use your mind and other methods to bring the perfect job to you. However, of course, even the law of attraction requires a few hard and fast rules.

Change Your Thinking

If you want to attract the job of your dreams, the first thing you have to do is change the way you think. Stop thinking about how many things you have to do in order to get a job. Instead, think about the perfect job. Start writing down what you would like in your ideal job. Write down specifics, including the type of boss you would like, how much salary you would like to earn, and whether you would like to work for a large or small company. Don’t forget to include what type of job you might like to be doing and what type of industry you want to work in.

Focus

You will never be able to attract a job if you can’t focus on the job you want. If you have a vague idea of the kind of work you want but don’t take time to focus on what kind of job will let you do that, then you will have a difficult time attracting that job to you. Think about the information you wrote down in step one. Imagine that you are working at that job and doing well. Imagine how successful you will be in six months, one year, and five years from now. Focus on the company you want to work for.

Make Connections

If you want to attract your dream job, you have to make connections. Pick up the telephone and connect with people who are working in your ideal environment. Rather than spending countless hours sending out hundreds of resumes, call up the HR department of places where you really want to work. Speak to the hiring manager and tell them that you are very interested in working with them. Ask them what it will take to work with that company. Talk about your credentials. Find out what you need to do to work there.

Apply

Once you know what you need to do to apply for your dream job and you have made a personal connection with someone at your dream company, then you can think about applying for a job at that company. Spend some additional time taking risks and applying for jobs with a company where you really want to work. If you get rejected, apply again. Stay in touch with the CEO and other corporate executives. Let them know that you are going to make a contribution to their company. Before long, you will land a job in your ideal position.
