Rochester Hills, Michigan is located just over 30 minutes from Detroit, but families don’t need to trek all the way to the city to find a variety of family-friendly activities. Right among the city’s restaurants, museums and entertainment venues are fun and unique activity options for toddlers that are great for any season.
Classic Lanes and Avon North Hill Lanes each offer 32 lanes of bowling and welcome children of all ages. Classic Lanes has discounts for kids’ bowling along with an arcade area, and Avon North Hill Lanes offers parent and child bowling leagues. Both bowling alleys provide bumper bowling to help move the game along for toddlers and packages for private parties.
Rochester Hills has a handful of community parks. Earl E. Borden Park on East Hamlin Road boasts approximately 30 acres of nature and hills used for family sledding during the winter months. Thelma G. Spencer Park on John R. Road has 113 acres and opportunities for fishing, along with a lake and a lifeguarded beach during the summer. Both parks, along with Wabash Park, offer play structures for toddlers to enjoy slides and swings.
Yates Cider Mill is open year-round. In addition to the donuts and apple cider in the fall, kids can enjoy custard or ice cream during the summer. They also offer a half-mile long river walk that’s great for family strolls. Toddlers also have a chance to take part in a pony ride or visit the petting zoo. At the Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve, toddlers can participate in weekend family programs and take part in activities geared toward helping them learn about nature, such as digging for dinosaur bones.
KiddieKlub is a childcare center that also offers indoor play for toddlers and a Kafé for parents to sit and relax. KiddieKlub has a climbing structure, imaginative playrooms and a soft mat play and tumble area. Boogie Babies features video games, a playscape, dramatic play centers, karaoke, educational toys, a movie and dance theater and an arts and crafts area. Computers featuring educational and fun games are also available for toddlers to play with. KiddieKlub and Boogie Babies are both available for special events and birthday parties.
At the Onyx Ice Arena, toddlers can take part in the parent-tot class that is great for kids with little or no experience. The introductory class teaches basic skills and provides balance practice, and the skating center often has open skate times. GTC Gymnastics & Activity Center also offers special toddler classes and birthday party packages, where toddlers can play in an inflatable fun house and foam pit.
