Activities for Toddlers and Infants in Fort Collins, Colorado

by Kimberlee Broaddus

Fort Collins, Colorado, is a popular location for young families looking for a culturally diverse town with activities the whole family can enjoy. If you think the youngest member of the family will be left out of the family fun, don't worry. From art and music to outdoor activities, Fort Collins offers plenty of entertaining options for your baby or toddler.

Water Play

The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department supports three indoor aquatic facilities, including the Mulberry Pool (http://www.fcgov.com/recreation/mulberrypool.php). Babies and toddlers enjoy swimming lessons or a day of play in the interactive splash area. Families can also spend the day outside at Oak Street Plaza Park (http://www.fcgov.com/parks/water.php). Shoppers take a break to sit with friends at one of the tables while the little ones try to catch the water jumping from the rocks surrounding the plaza.

Play Spaces

Inspirational Playground (http://www.fcgov.com/aro/inspirationplayground.php) was created as a playground for kids (and adults) of all ages and abilities. This unique structure, located within Spring Canyon Community Park, is wheelchair accessible, with ramps and wide spaces throughout. The splash pad next to the playground sends water shooting into the air for a perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day. The Garden at Spring Creek (http://www.fcgov.com/gardens/our-gardens/childrens-garden) provides curious youngsters a place to explore nature. Kids cross the pond on stepping stones or play make-believe in the Dr. Seuss playhouse.

Cool Beans Playhouse and Cafe

The Cool Beans Playhouse and Café (coolbeansplayhouse.com) gives families the perfect combination: a place for toddlers to play while parents enjoy coffee and a snack. Toddlers pretend in the miniature kitchen or enjoy building with a block tower. The play area also boasts a custom play structure and even a climbing wall. Parents must stay on site at all times. Classes are available to families and youngsters alike. The Music Together class emphasizes adult involvement while babies and toddlers experience music and movement.

Outdoor Fun

Young children can have an outdoor adventure with farm animals at The Farm at Lee Martinez Park (http://www.fcgov.com/recreation/thefarm.php). Hay rides and pony rides are available and visitors enjoy a picnic afterward. Fort Fun (http://www.fortfun.biz/activities_train.html) is an outdoor play place for kids of all ages that includes mini golf and a bounce house. Babies and toddlers enjoy the summertime Adventure Train that takes visitors around the park. The colors will wow babies and toddlers on the kiddie rides, as older siblings explore the rest of the park.
