Activities for Kids in and around Strongsville, Ohio

Nestled along the Rocky River, the suburban city of Strongsville, Ohio is 20 miles southwest of downtown Cleveland. While according the 2011 U.S. Census estimate, the population is about 44,400, giving it a small-town feel, there are still many activities for kids within the city as well as in surrounding areas.

Game Centers

Firefly's Mini Golf (fireflysminigolf.com) is an indoor, glow-in-the-dark mini golf adventure for the kids. It offers open play, private party rentals, tournaments and photo opportunities with Frankie the mascot. Nine miles away in Hinckley, Buzzard Cove Mini Golf (buzzardcove.com) has outdoor miniature golf and various other games to keep the kids busy. Five miles north of Strongsville in Brunswick is Dick Hoover's Lanes (dickhooverslanes.com). It offers traditional bowling with a kids' bowl-for-free program during the summer. Kids who register receive two free games per day.

Parks

The city of Strongsville (strongsville.org) provides several recreational parks for kids to enjoy. Volunteer Park (no website; Lunn Rd; 440-580-3260) features batting cages, vending machines, picnic tables and a playground. Backyard Preserve (no website; Royalton Rd; 440-580-3260) provides a more scenic setting with nature trails, an amphitheatre and plenty of wildlife. Recreational Park #2 (no website; Foltz Industrial Parkway; 440-580-3260) has open fields, playgrounds, picnic tables, basketball courts and BBQ grills.

Food and Farm

Mapleside Farms (mapleside.com) is a 100-acre functioning apple orchard located in Brunswick just 5 miles north of Strongsville. It provides dining for the whole family including an ice cream parlor and fresh apples to take home. The kids will enjoy the climbing toys like the giant spider web, snake belly tunnel and rattlesnake mountain. For some sweet treats, Olympia Candy (olympiacandy.com) offers custom made ice cream and chocolates. The kids might also enjoy taking a tour of the chocolate factory. For the kids who are interested in cooking themselves, check out Young Chef's Academy (youngchefsacademy.com), which offers cooking classes for 3- to 11-year-olds. They also host children's birthday parties like their Make Your Own Pizza Party or Cake Decorating Extravaganza!

Classes

Strongsville Academy of Music (avonstrongsvillemusic.org) offers music instruction, including piano, voice, violin, guitar, jazz guitar, drum, brass and bass lessons, for kids as young as age 3. Head Over Heels Gymnastics (headoverheelsohio.com) provides gymnastics and tumbling classes for preschoolers and school-age children interested in gymnastics for recreation and/or competition. Strongsville Dance Company (strongsvilledance.com) provides dance classes in tap, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics, lyrical, ballet and modern. Mommy and Me classes are available for toddlers to introduce them to creative movement.
