Seneca Falls, located in the heart of the Finger Lakes District of New York, draws visitors in with Cayuga Lake, historical museums, scenic views and the Seneca River/Cayuga-Seneca Canal that flows right through town. Whether your family is looking for an outdoor adventure out on the lake or something to do indoors on a rainy day, you'll find a variety of activities for the whole family to enjoy together.
Plan a visit to the Seneca Falls Heritage Area Visitor Center to check out the programs and exhibits. As you make your way through the visitor center, you'll learn about the development of the Finger Lakes, transportation in the area throughout the years and the story of the first women's rights convention. Programs offered for children include an exhibit scavenger hunt and a scouting badge program. You can also go to the Seneca Museum for some learning fun and attend special events with your children, such as summer camps and programs like "Songs and Stories of the Erie Canal."
Mark your calendar to attend some of the special events that take place in the Seneca Falls community throughout the year. At the Seneca Meadows Wetlands Preserve, you can go for a snowshoe hike in the winter or participate in a nature photo scavenger hunt in the spring. In September, your family can go to the St. Anthony Italian Festival to enjoy carnival rides, live entertainment, games, delicious foods and a spectacular fireworks display.
Recreation and Parks Activities
Check out all of the activities offered through the Seneca Falls Recreation and Parks Department. Your children can take a cooking class if they are in kindergarten through fifth grade or play in the lacrosse league if they are in first grade to sixth grade. During the summer, you can take your kids swimming at Vince's Park, where you'll find an outdoor pool, picnic areas and softball fields. Kid's Territory has a creative playground, sports fields and an assortment of children's activities for your family to enjoy.
Enjoy the outdoors with your children at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, where you can view exhibits and taxidermy in the visitor center, view a variety of native wildlife, go boating and fishing or take a hike on some of the trails. Alternatively, spend some time at Cayuga Lake State Park. Your family can fish for bass, carp, pike and trout or play on the beach or playground. You can also rent a cabin or pitch a tent and stay overnight at the park.
