Located in of the town of Hempstead, New York is the hamlet of Oceanside. This community of around 32,000, as of the 2010 U.S. census, is just a 10-minute drive from the vacation destination of Long Beach. You'll find an assortment of children's activities that you and your family can enjoy together around Oceanside.
You and your children can spend the day at the City of Long Beach, Beach Park, 10 minutes away, where you can play on the 3.3 mile-long beach, splash in the water or fly a kite. Other activities around the beach park include a children's playground inside Veteran's Park, children's summer camps and free summer beach concerts. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation maintains Hempstead Lake State Park, 14 minutes away in West Hempstead. There, your family will find all sorts of exciting outdoor activities to enjoy, including playgrounds, hiking and biking trails and picnic areas. Your kids can take a ride on the historic hand carved wooden carousel or try their luck at fishing in one of the three ponds.
You'll find a variety of events and festivals your family can attend through the Town of North Hempstead. In early May, your family can go to EcoFest, where you'll find crafts, art, games, family activities, storytelling and wildlife shows or you can watch a fireworks show during Memorial Day weekend at the North Hempstead Beach Park, 30 minutes away in Port Washington. In August, your family can go to FamilyFest at the North Hempstead Beach Park to enjoy wildlife presentations, arts, crafts, kite flying and sandcastle building. Alternatively, you could go to Kidstock, a family event, featuring live children's entertainment, activities and a drive-in movie after dark.
You could sign your children up for one of the classes that are offered in Oceanside, like those at Oceanside Dance Center. Your kids can choose from classes like hip hop, tap, ballet, jazz and lyrical or join the competition dance team. At the Academy of Martial Arts Tenmei Dojo, in Oceanside, your children can take classes to learn martial arts. The Future Kidz preschool program focuses on improving motor and listening skills. Older kids can participate in the Future Kidz youth martial arts program to improve self-confidence and build self-esteem.
Your family can spend some time together at Baldwin Bowl, a 6-minute drive away in Baldwin, where you'll find programs like the Adult/Child Fun Bowl, 8 for 8 Kids Bowling program and an assortment of youth leagues. Or, you can make the 7-minute drive to Lynbrook and take the kids to Fun Station USA for some family fun. Your family can enjoy attractions, such as laser tag, a carousel, bumper cars, a helicopter ride, turtle train and a flight simulator. You can also navigate through the multi-level maze together and play come video games in the arcade.
