East Tennessee has several accredited colleges and universities where students can earn a degree in nursing. Many four-year colleges offer programs for registered nurse professionals to earn a bachelor's or master's degree in nursing in order to advance their nursing careers. Two-year associate's programs typically offer degrees for those wishing to become licensed nurse practitioners or registered nurses.
Both the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and at Chattanooga offer bachelor’s, master’s and a doctor’s of nursing practice degrees, as well as registered nurse-to-bachelor’s programs. At the Chattanooga campus, master’s students can choose between family nurse practitioner and anesthesia specializations. The Knoxville Campus offers an accelerated bachelor’s program and a Ph.D. in nursing for those who wish to teach nursing. East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctor of nursing degrees.
King University School of Nursing in Bristol, Tennessee, is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The school offers bachelor’s, master’s and registered nurse-to-bachelor’s-of-nursing degrees with many hands-on opportunities, including mission trips abroad and management training. Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee, offers a joint bachelor's and master’s program in conjunction with Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Students spend their first three years at Maryville and a subsequent three years at Vanderbilt. Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee, offers accelerated and traditional bachelor's of nursing degrees and a master’s of nursing degree.
Two-Year and Community Colleges
Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland offers an Associate Degree in Applied Science in nursing and a transition option for Licensed Practical Nurses. The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Chattanooga State Community College’s Nursing and Allied Health department provides an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing for those wishing to become registered nurses. Pellissippi State Technical Community College in Knoxville offers these same programs and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc.
Online Nursing Programs
The Regents Online Campus Collaborative offers an online Master of Science in Nursing program in conjunction with the six Tennessee Board of Regents schools, which include East Tennessee State University and Tennessee Technical University. Students can choose from five concentrations: nursing education, nursing administration, nursing informatics, family nurse practitioner, and a RN-to-MSN program for registered nurses holding bachelor's degrees in another field. The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
